The Tropika Island of Treasue ran on pack 12 million units for a 12 week
promotion, with a call to entry for consumers to vote for their favourite
celebrity and stand a chance to team up with that celebrity, on the Island
of Mauritius.The campaign was centered around choosing 10 Tropika consumers
to join 10 of Mzanzi’s brightest stars: Gift Gwe, Roxy Louw, Zuraida Jardine,
Heino Schmitt, Kagiso Lediga,Nadine,Joey Rasdien, Pam Andrews, Kelly Khumalo,
Loyiso Bala, to make up 10 teams.
The Teams competed for R1 Million Rand in the easiest of contests over a
period of 7 days on the beautiful beaches of Mauritius. The 10 celebrities
jetted off to Mauritius for seven days from the 24th of May to the 31 st
of May 2008 for a four star, all expenses paid holiday-competition
The 10 celebrities, in groups on 2 shot 5 x 30’’ TVC’s announcing the competition
and the chance for a consumer to win at trip to Mauritius with them. Celebrities
were then paired with the winning consumer who had entered and won the first
phase of the competition. Once on the Island, the pairs were given tasks
to complete. The nature of the competition was very relaxed and the competition
took part over 4 days, It was not physically challenging, but loads of fun:
• Bartering in Grand Baie
• Undersea helmet walking
• A Jeep Rally
• A Duck race
The 10 pairs on the island were followed around by a small camera crew which
captured the fun and relaxation. The footage was aired on 20 Something.
A Tropika blog was also set up so that fans could post a message for their
favourite celebrity. Sunday World was the media partner for 2008 and ran
advertorial over a period of 12 weeks for the campaign.
At the end of the seven days, a winning pair was chosen based on the out
come of the tasks. Pam Andrews and her partner Owen Madono won 1 million
rand which they split in half |
